THE SEED IS THE WORD OF GOD This book is a collection of weekday homilies that were originally prepared by the Rev. Richard McLernan, OSFS, for weekdays during the liturgical season of Ordinary Time. It contains approximately 260 homilies - one for each weekday and sometimes a second one as well - and homilies for some feast days that occur within those seasons. In the author's words, "...since they were meant to be spoken, the tone is conversational, the idiom colloquial with its less formal grammatical and literary style." Fr. McLernan was an Oblate of St. Francis de Sales. Their patron, St. Francis de Sales, taught that busyness and a hectic lifestyle are normal for most people and are not obstacles to achieving holiness - in fact he says, "Every moment comes to us pregnant with a command from God, only to pass on and plunge into eternity, there to remain forever what we have made of it." In this book, Fr. McLernan tells readers how they can do this - live as true Christians in the present moments of their everyday lives - by presenting practical examples that reflect the commandments of Jesus: to love our neighbor as our self and to love one another, just as He has loved us.
