YOU MADE IT IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA South St. Louis County in Missouri, like many of today's suburbs, was yesterday's bread basket, an area of farms and orchards. Located between the Mississippi and Meramec Rivers, its few pioneer inhabitants cared more for mills and ferries than for the fur trade of the village of St. Louis. A Starting Point is their story as they survived wars, droughts, floods, the Depression and Prohibition. It was only after the post-World War II rush to suburbs that their way of life started to change.
